Mercadalia, Indespan, SanLucar and Embutidos Martínez recognised with FEDACOVA Awards

Mercadalia, for its Internationalisation; Indespan, for its Innovation; SanLucar, in the Sustainable Business category, and Embutidos Martínez, in Food Quality and Safety, are the four companies awarded the FEDACOVA 2023 Awards, which recognise the efforts and commitment of firms in the agri-food sector.

The third edition of these awards also recognised, with the presentation of the FEDACOVA Honorary Award, Federico Félix for his more than 30 years at the head of the Agri-Food Business Federation of the Valencian Community (FEDACOVA), whose presidency he ceased to hold in 2021.

The event took place this morning at the Bancaja Foundation and was attended by the First Vice-President and Minister of Culture and Sport, Vicente Barrera, and the Government Delegate in the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé. Also in attendance were the Director General for Industry and the Agri-Food Chain, Inmaculada Marco, the Valencia City Councillor Juan Carlos Caballero, and the President of the CEV, Salvador Navarro, among others.

In addition, the meeting brought together more than 200 professionals and representatives from the Valencian agri-food sector.

During his speech, the president of FEDACOVA, Rafael Juan, highlighted the importance of this sector for the economy and society, which he described as “strategic” and the role of the companies that make it up “which are the mainstay and driving force behind its development”. “These awards are a recognition of these firms that, day by day, are committed to achieving better competitiveness and better and more solid companies, thereby benefiting society as a whole”.

Mercadalia Group, FEDACOVA Internationalisation Award

Mercadalia is a Spanish industrial group, the result of a long business history dating back more than 60 years, which includes such powerful companies as Damel Group and Boston Nutraceutical Science (Vitaldin) among others. Its leisure food division, Damel, is home to iconic brands in the Spanish and international market such as Palotes, Pectol and Meivel.

With regard to its functional food division, its Vitaldin brand has become an international benchmark in the food supplements market, innovating with its gummies format. With more than 15 references, they are present in major retailers, both in Spain and in the USA, as well as through their e-commerce and their own Amazon store.

Javier Blanch Desco, Director of Marsh & McLennan’s Valencia and Murcia Region, presented the award to José Vicente López, CEO and Managing Director of Mercadalia Group.

Indespan, FEDACOVA Award for Innovation

Indespan is a company founded in 1993 by Carlos J. Bernabé, and has always been characterised for being pioneers in innovation in raw materials in the bakery, confectionery and catering sector, both at industrial and artisan level; with great experience in customised developments for companies in the sector both in Spain and Latin America.

Throughout these 30 years of experience, this company has innovated to influence consumer health through food, such as a line of powdered preparations for the production of high quality bakery and pastry products that are totally gluten-free in 2011, the bakery line with microencapsulated iron, the line of totally egg-free preparations or the line of powdered preparations to produce bakery products and derivatives with a high protein content.

Federico Zambruno Martínez, Business Director of the Valencia Territorial Division of GRUPO CAJAMAR presented the award to Carlos Bernabé, CEO of Indespan.

SanLucar, winner of the FEDACOVA Sustainable Business Award

Multinational fruit and vegetable company dedicated to the production and distribution of premium quality fruit and vegetables. SanLucar is guided by a philosophy: “Taste in harmony with People and Nature” with the conviction of the power of the business world to generate a positive impact on society and the environment by promoting sustainable development.

The sustainability strategy covers all sites and the entire supply chain, for which they have formed the Sustainability Working Group, a team made up of experts from each area of SanLucar. Working together, these experts contribute their experience and knowledge to address sustainability challenges in the short, medium and long term. They also have a programme called DREAMS, which aims to carry out social and environmental projects in the communities in which they operate.

Jesús García García, Territorial Director of Cajamar, Caja Rural in Valencia, presented the award to Jennifer Heer, Communication & CR Director of SanLucar and Nancy Daiss, CR Manager International of SanLucar.

Embutidos Martínez, FEDACOVA Award for Food Quality and Safety

Embutidos Martínez is a leading Spanish company in the production of fresh and cured sausages, burger meat and premium hamburgers, with a current production of around 43 million kilograms of product. Together with Platos Tradicionales, Cinco Tenedores, La Pila Food and the KM ZERO foundation, it forms part of the Familia Martínez corporate division. The shared mission of these companies is to create tasty, healthy, simple and sustainable solutions to feed more than two million people every day. Founded by Francisco Martínez, the companies that make up Familia Martínez directly employ more than 1,800 people in their different plants, spread between Madrid and Valencia.

As an example of the importance of Familia Martínez, Embutidos Martínez participated in the European Commission’s Better Training for Safer Food initiative, organised by AINIA, in which almost fifty health inspectors from 20 European Union countries visited the company as an international benchmark meat company in food safety.
